If you have ever watched a practice or workout of an elite high school wrestling program, you walk away impressed with the tremendous endurance and toughness of the wrestlers. For Paulsboro, New Jersey inside linebacker Zach Greenwald, it's just routine. Zach placed 3rd in the 215 lbs. weight class in the N.J State Championships this year. Then he moved on to preparing for football. Greenwald's demonic off-season training program is one usually reserved for Olympic athletes or UFC fighters. This includes intense weight lifting (his 375 lbs. bench press and 500 lbs. squat are impressive for someone who just turned 17 years old), working at speed camp and agility drills.

While Greenwald is the defenition of an intense, ultra-aggressive, run-stuffing inside linebacker, he is not content with that label. He has been working non-stop to improve his already impressive 4.63 forty time and his sideline-to-sideline speed and quickness are outstanding.

Greenwald's on-field production is unmatched. This will be his fourth year as as a Varsity starting inside linebacker. He had 150 tackles as a sophomore and 140 tackes and 3 interceptions as a junior, despite playing only half the game in several blowouts.

During the spring evaluation period, Greenwald saw a steady stream of top colleges come though the doors at Paulsboro H.S. Some players are listed as 6'1 1/2", 229 lbs. and are really 6'0", 210 lbs. Greenwald, however, is the opposite. He is in fact a legit 6'1 1/2" and currently tips the scales at 229 lbs. College coaches have been impressed with his size, quickness, intensity and non-stop motor. He has what some refer to as the "it factor". He just makes plays and just gets to the ball no matter what and when he does, the collisions are often brutal. Greenwald's most impressive numbers are in the classroom where he holds a 3.7 GPA, taking Honors courses and scoring a 1350 on the SAT. He is ranked 8th overall in his class.

What schools stand out in Greenwald's recruitment process? Who is he hearing from? Does he have any personal goals for next season? "The schools that stand out at this point are Rutgers, B.C. and Tulane. I have been hearing reguarly from Minnesota, Iowa, Syracuse, Virginia, Stanford and others," says Greenwald. "My goals for next season will be to break the all time tackle record at my school, which I need about 30 tackles to break, then to be the best I can and strike fear in the other teams and make other teams not want to play against me. Next will be to make first team all-state," he continued. Spoken like a true linebacker.
